Abstract

ABSTRACT Proposal Number: CTS-0618921 Principal Investigator: Hrenya, Christine, M. Affiliation: Gordon Research Conferences This proposal requests partial travel support for US Academics attending the Gordon Research Conference on Granular and Granular Fluid Flow to be held in Oxford, UK, July 23 -28, 2006. Intellectual Merit The purpose of this conference is to bring together experts from all over the world to exchange experiences, disseminate up-to-date information and to explore new opportunities in the field. The Gordon Conferences provide a unique forum for the exchange of fresh ideas in an atmosphere of unhampered discussion among participants in disciplines that do not normally intersect. Broader Impact The participation of young US students and faculty in this International Conference will provide an opportunity to interact with international experts and become familiar with the current state of the art of this field. The organizers plan to actively encourage under-represented minorities, women, and junior faculty to actively participate with a special presentation by an invited young scholar each day as well as poster sessions.
