Abstract

In this award, funded by the Experimental Physical Chemistry Program of the Chemistry Division, Prof. F. Fleming Crim of the University of Wisconsin-Madison and his research students and post-doctoral associates will continue their work investigating bimolecular reactions in gas and condensed phases. The Crim Research group is exploring hydrogen atom abstraction reactions by CN and Br atoms. Through the examination of the same reaction systems in both gas and condensed phases, the hope is that we will develop a better understanding of how the environment influences fundamental chemical dynamics. The greater understanding gained through this research can have practical consequences for atmospheric chemistry, combustion, and plasma processing. Prof. Crim will continue to develop young scientists who go on to careers in industry, government laboratories and academe. In addiiton, Prof. Crim will continue with his broad-ranging service activities within the chemical discipline.
