Abstract
National Earth Science Teachers Association Strategic Planning Workshop This award supports a significant strategic planning effort by the National Earth Science Teachers Association (NESTA), a non-profit organization serving the national community of K-12 geoscience teachers. Two main activities are being undertaken. An electronic survey of the full NESTA membership is being used to assess member attitudes and needs related to several key issues, including professional development and curriculum resources; cyberinfrastructure support and web-based resources; strengthening linkages to relevant state-based organizations; collaborations with other organizations and corporations; and the need for uniform practices for geoscience education projects. A strategic planning workshop to be held in Colorado July 16-18, 2006 will articulate a long-range vision, mission, goals, and objectives for NESTA as an organization and identify mechanisms to bring NESTA into the mainstream of activities aimed at reforming geoscience education. Recommendations from the workshop will be delivered to the NESTA Executive Board, in order to discuss implementation, and will be distributed in an article published in the NESTA publication The Earth Scientist.
