Abstract
Specific projects proposed are: vortex pinning and pinning-induced structural phase transition in vortex lattices; vortices in dipolar condensates where the long-range and anisotropic dipolar interaction may change the structures of individual vortices or vortex lattice in a significant way; and quantum and thermal melting of vortex lattice and their relation with the presence of pinning or dipolar interaction. These projects will provide a deeper understanding of vortex matter in trapped atomic condensates, make contact with condensed matter theory and pave ways for further experimental studies.
