CHARGE STRUCTURE OF THE NEUTRON
Kent State University, Kent OH
Investigators
Abstract
This award will support travel expenses of the principal investigator to participate in an upcoming experiment at Jefferson Laboratory in Newport News, VA. The experiment, approved with high priority, will involve electron scattering from deuterium, and will provide through analysis a measurement of the neutron charge form factor at the highest momentum transfer yet employed. This measurement will provide further insight into the distribution of charge in the neutron (electrically neutral, but non-zero positive and negative charge inside) and will help us to understand better how quarks and gluons are bound into composite particles such as the neutron. Participation in this experiment will also involve extensive interaction with students, postdoctoral scholars, and other junior scientists.
