Abstract
This proposal is to support a group from the University of Rochester consisting of the PI, two postdoctoral associates, and three students, in their work on the "CLEO-c" experiment. This experiment has significant potential for producing high quality data on charm particle decays that far exceed all previous data. Some of these results, for example those relating to "lattice QCD" comparisons, will be of theoretical importance in calculating strong interaction strengths; the measurements of absolute branching fractions will be important for understanding decays of heavier quarks and aid in the interpretation of measurements at the"B factories" BaBar (US) and Belle (Japan); and the experiment will improved knowledge of the "CKM matrix elements" which will make possible precise tests of the unitarity of the CKM matrix describing weak interactions. .
