REU Site: Condensed Matter and LASER Physics REU Program at Montana State University
Montana State University, Bozeman MT
Investigators
Abstract
This effort involves 8 undergraduate students and 5 teachers (K-12, community college, or tribal college) in research activities for 10 weeks during the summer at Montana State University through establishment of a Research Experiences for Undergraduates (REU) Site coupled with a Research Experiences for Teachers (RET) Program. The participants are mentored by experienced researchers in projects closely associated with ongoing activities in Condensed Matter and LASER Physics. Weekly meetings develop an awareness of major scientific discoveries while honing presentation skills and encouraging open discussion. Each summer program concludes with research presentations given by each of the participants. This REU Site makes a substantial effort to recruit from the Native American community in order to enhance diversity of the scientific workforce
