Abstract
The Principal Investigator (PI) proposes to study various problems in the area of string theory and its applications to non-perturbative problems in quantum gauge theories. In particular, his aims are to obtain fundamental insights into the structure of string theory on AdS backgrounds and use the AdS/CFT duality to extract non-perturbative information about quantum gauge theory. The PI applies and develops methods of theoretical and mathematical physics to solve difficult analytical and numerical problems to shed light on physical processes in string theory and gauge theory. The PI' proposed research activities are to study of the spectrum of type IIB superstring theory on the AdS5 S 5 background by using various methods and approaches. The long-term goal is to prove or disprove the AdS/CFT conjecture. Here interesting connections arise with methods of exactly-solvable models.
