Planning for a Social Informatics Network
Carnegie Mellon University, Pittsburgh PA
Investigators
Abstract
This award supports planning for a Social Informatics Network. The PI will constitute a small working group that will act as the enduring organizational and intellectual institution to promote, improve and support research in this critical area. Several face-to-face meetings are planned including one with the Deans and Department Chairs at institutions where faculty conduct research in Social Informatics. This Social Informatics Network is important to the Nation for several reasons including continuation of research focused on society and the societal benefits and costs of information technology, the encouragement of risk taking and innovative research among young scholars that might not otherwise take place, the development of students willing to do interdisciplinary research, and the development and maintenance of a research community.
