Abstract

This award supports the participation of US scientists in the Scientific Committee on Antarctic Research (SCAR) by supporting an informational website and other activities at the US-SCAR delegate's office. SCAR is an inter-disciplinary committee of the International Council for Science. It is charged with initiating, developing and coordinating scientific research in the Antarctic region, meeting every two years in both a formal forum for national delegates and an open science meeting. Apart from providing scientific feedback to the Antarctic Treaty nations, the meeting provides opportunities for US scientists to expand their knowledge of Antarctic research, learn of emerging opportunities, develop international collaborations, and participate in global Antarctic science programs. The website will also raise awareness of the importance of scientific research in the Antarctic to the general public.
