Abstract

AST-0505381 Martin/Caltech The Cosmic Web Imager is designed to discover and map resonance UV line emission from the intergalactic medium and to explore the low surface brightness universe. The Cosmic Web Imager will be deployed on the Palomar 200 inch telescope and will improve upon mapping of the intergalactic medium compared with using the sparse lines of sight afforded by using QSO absorption. Broader impacts include the development of robust and accurate algorithms for background subtraction, which will have impacts beyond this one project.
