Abstract
0519562 King This grant supports continued development of the GAMIT/GLOBK Global Positioning System (GPS) processing software package. Continuous support for development of GAMIT/GLOBK since been provided by NSF/Earth Sciences since 1997. Over the next two years, PI's Robert King and Tom Herring will: 1) develop improved models and user interfaces for automatic processing of GPS data for high-precision applications; 2) improve software documentation; and 3) provide training and assistance to users of GAMIT/GLOBK. The software is currently used by over thirty U.S. investigators and over sixty foreign institutions with which they collaborate. GAMIT/GLOBK is licensed at no cost to universities and government laboratories for education and research. Continued improvements in GAMIT/GLOBK facilitates advances in understanding of diverse scientific problems, including plate kinematics, the earthquake cycle, crustal dynamics, volcanic processes, ice dynamics and associated sea level change, and atmospheric sensing. Free access to this software encourages wide spread use by scientists within the U.S. and abroad and proposed training workshops have obvious educational benefits for students and researchers. ***
