Abstract
Blackman 0532013 This project involves maintaining the Ridge 2000 office at Scripps Institution of Oceanography for the next three years, in addition to a number of workshops, theoretical institutes, and meetings. The Integrated Studies component of the Ridge 2000 program emphasizes new insights into ridge processes obtained by understanding the linkage from mantle to microbe. A key aspect of upcoming Ridge 2000 office efforts will be maximize the ability of the marine geological and biological communities to achieve this, via coordination of research efforts and design of effective venues for dissemination of initial results and subsequent planning. This whole activity falls under the category of broader impacts. In addition, education and outreach efforts are an important part of RIDGE 2000 office efforts. This includes K-12 lesson development, involving teachers and their students in experiments on seagoing voyages, developing a MOR component for the upcoming Deep Ocean exhibit at Birch Aquarium, and hosting the national high school student ROV competition at UCSD. The RIDGE 2000 website has both research facilitation and education components.
