Investigators
Abstract
With support from the Major Research Instrumentation (MRI) Program, the Department of Chemistry at East Carolina University will purchase two instruments: a liquid chromatograph/mass spectrometer (LC/MS) equipped with electrospray and chemical ionization sources and a gas chromatograph/mas spectrometer (GC/MS) with electron impact ionization. This equipment will facilitate studies on a) host-guest interactions; b) the end-groups of fluorinated polymers; c) characterization of peptides and small proteins; and d) synthetic organic chemistry. Chromatography with mass spectrometric detection is an extremely powerful and sensitive technique used for the separation and analysis of complex mixtures. The results from studies using the requested spectrometer will have an impact on biochemistry and materials chemistry.
