Support for K-12 female students to attend ICASSP-2005

Abstract

Drs. B. Popescu and J. Kovacevic, and A.P. Petropulu have organized a panel with topic 'Women in Signal Processing', to take place at ICASSP 2005. We propose to invite a group of local young girls (K-12) to attend the panel. We feel that this would be a nice setup for young girls to be exposed to the field of Signal Processing and meet women who have made careers in this field. Panel members will meet with the girls and their teachers before the panel and talk to them about signal processing and its applications in everyday life. We will get in touch with schools in the Philadelphia area and invite a group of girls and their teachers. The requested amount will cover food for the attendees, transportation expenses, a honorarium for the teachers who will help organize the effort."
