Abstract
1 General Assembly Meeting of the International Union of Theoretical and Applied Mechanics to be held at Brown University, Providence, Rhode Island in August 2006 Abstract This grant will support the biannual meeting of the General Assembly of the International Union of Theoretical and Applied Mechanics (IUTAM) to be held in Providence, Rhode Island, in August of 2006. This meeting brings together scientists from around the world representing the adhering organizations of 49 countries and territories, plus representatives of affiliated organizations. The mission of IUTAM is to advance the science of mechanics worldwide and to foster international cooperation in that effort. To fulfill that goal, a principal function of this meeting will be to select approximately 15 international scientific symposia for subsequent years with broad involvement among geographic regions of the world and among age groups in the field, and to begin shaping the program for the next International Congress of Theoretical and Applied Mechanics scheduled for Adelaide, Australia, in August of 2008.
