Broadening Participation: A Workshop to Foster Participation of Disabled Persons in Computer and Information Science and Engineering

Abstract

The University of South Florida is funded to support a workshop on increasing the participation of persons with disabilities in Computer Science education and research. Participants will include Computer Science researchers with disabilities, people with experience in working with students with disabilities, and people working on assistive technology. Participants will discuss a variety of issues including priorities for students, current legislation, partnering with existing organizations, awareness, training for educators, and overcoming low expectations and confidence. This workshop ties in well with the new CISE initiative on Broadening Participation in Computing (BPC).
