Abstract

Grande-Allen 0502342 The goal of this proposal is to develop an organ culture bioreactor system in which mitral valve materials can be cultured in order to study the humoral role in valvular remodeling. The project will establish the chemical and mechanical conditions required to recreate a pathological response in the organ cultured valve tissues. This research will impact the field of valve biology and contribute to the prevention and management of heart valve disease. The project will also emphasize education by training graduate and undergraduate students and by developing a series of instructional lectures for the medical student and cardiology residents.
