Abstract

The Robert J. Melosh Symposium in Finite Element Analysis Abstract The Melosh Medal Symposium is an internationally recognized student-paper competition in .nite-element analysis. This proposal is requesting funds to provide travel assistance to the student .nalists who will be selected by a distinguished panel of judges in a double-blind format. With other funding that has been secured by Duke University, such assistance would allow all student expenses to be covered. In anticipation of this assistance opening up the applicant pool to a much broader class of students, promotional .yers will be sent to engineering and applied math programs at historically black colleges and universities. A call for papers will also be placed in several top-notch research journals and in the Digest for the US Association for Computational Mechanics, with particular emphasis placed on the availability of travel support. The winner will be selected on the basis of a combined paper/oral presentation score, and the results of the Symposium will be widely disseminated on the web and local news media.
