Abstract

DESCRIPTION: The Developmental and Genetic Statistics Core (Core B) is designed to establish a much-needed permanent two-way street between statistical geneticists and psychiatric epidemiologists in order that the next generation of questions about the role of the family in behavioral development can be addressed more effectively. Core B will employ four main strategies to meet this goal: 1) providing adequate statistical and methodological support and training to Center staff and faculty ("organizational aims"); 2) providing the intellectual and statistical foundation for project design and data analyses for Center programs ("model-building" and "evaluation"); 3) performing model secondary analyses of data currently available to the Center, to explore the operational characteristics of models developed under 2 above with real-world rather than artificial data ("example analyses"); 4) addressing some crucial theoretical and practical issues in genetics ("statistical aims"). Dr. Lindon Eaves, of VCU, is the director of this Core.
