Abstract
The Census Bureau provides technical and statistical support as the steward of the Tobacco Use Supplement to the Current Population Survey (TUS-CPS) â National Death Index linkage study data. The project is referred to as the Tobacco Longitudinal Mortality Study (TLMS). The TLMS is jointly sponsored by NHLBI, NCI, NIA, NCHS, FDA, and the Census Bureau. Each sponsor has their own ultimate research goals in mind, but they contribute jointly to the development of the TLMS database. Each sponsor will adhere to the data, research, and operational policies and priorities as established. The development of this database is meant to enable research by the National Cancer Institute (NCI) and its funded investigators. The TLMS is being expanded to link incident cancers and cancer death data from the North American Association of Central Cancer Registries (NAACCR). This linkage will enable additional evaluation of cancer morbidity and mortality related to tobacco use.
