Abstract
The National Institute of General Medical Sciences (NIGMS) seeks to procure services to develop a plan for conducting outreach to small businesses in the biomedical research space. The NIGMS Small Business program supports Small Business Innovation Research (SBIR) and Small Business Technology Transfer Research (STTR) awards that align with its broad mission to support: ⢠basic research that increases our understanding of biological processes and lays the foundation for advances in disease diagnosis, treatment and prevention ⢠research in specific clinical areas that affect multiple organ systems ⢠training the next generation of scientists ⢠developing research capacity throughout the country The NIGMS Small Business program has budget of roughly $100 million and support approximately 150 new awards annually. The NIGMS seeks to develop a strategy to help promote the program and encourage participation by traditional and non-traditional investigators to enhance the development of innovative technologies to advance the research enterprise.
