Abstract

A vaccine response is a complex and dynamic process and represents a multifaceted interplay within the immune system. While vaccines have been in use for over two centuries, we still do not fully understand which factors contribute to a beneficial outcome. We hypothesize that immunogenetic data can be used more broadly to stratify high versus low vaccine responders and can be combined with immunologic biomarkers to build machine learning models capable of predicting an individual’s immune response following vaccination. This approach would enable precision vaccinology by targeting each individual with the appropriate immunogen and adjuvant combination at the right time to maximize vaccine efficacy.
