Abstract
The NTP has recently completed multiple reports evaluating the toxicity and carcinogenicity of substances. For instance, a recent technical report describes a study on the effects of exposure of Di(2-Ethylhexyl) Phthalate, also known as DEHP. Humans are widely exposed to this chemical, and this exposure is likely to occur during both pre-natal and post-natal development. The study indicated that there was clear evidence of carcinogenic activity of DEHP exposure in male rats based on increased incidences of hepatocellular adenoma or carcinoma (combined) and acinar adenoma or carcinoma (combined) in the pancreas. Large-scale transcriptional analysis of rats exposed to DEHP is being conducted and molecular characterization of the gene expression response is in process. We will continue to explore these findings with bioinformatic analyses.
