Abstract

The Medical Oncology Service (MOS) supports the clinical activities of various branches across the Center for Cancer Research and oversees the medical oncology fellowship program, the medical oncology consult service and the inpatient hospitalist service associated with the MOS. The overarching goal of the MOS is to optimize the quality and efficiency of medical oncology clinical operations and to maintain an interactive and engaged medical oncology community. MOS staff include an NCI proceduralist who performs bone marrow biopsies and other procedures required for the clinical care of patients followed by medical oncology. The consult service addresses requests for medical oncology consults from ICs across the NIH. The fellowship team is part of the broader NIH hematology oncology fellowship program, which focuses on training physician-scientists through the NIH Hematology Oncology Fellowship and the NCI Immunotherapy Fellowship in a laboratory-to-clinic translational research setting to develop their expertise in medical oncology research and to support their board certification by the American Board of Internal Medicine.
