Abstract

To support the ongoing basic research in the laboratories in the Center for Cancer Research (CCR), the Office of the Director provided additional resources to basic scientists as well as infrastructure cost to run the program. These requests for additional personnel or major equipment, beyond what the standard budget of an investigator can support. These requests are open to all investigators and fully vetted to determine the need and impact on the CCR as a whole. Requests must be related to cancer including AIDS-related malignancies, and equipment needs to develop cutting-edge tools to accelerate progress. This support includes all the major research areas in CCR including: retrovirology, basic biology, developmental biology, structural biology, chemistry, RNA biology, bioinformatics, molecular targets and drug discovery, cellular mechanisms, and the genetic factors that influence disease susceptibility and progression. The Office of the Director also centralizes support for all basic research in funding of interagency agreements and MOUs that provide access to NIH cores as well as costs for FFRDC usage. In addition, the Basic Science Program, run via Leidos, provides administrative support for ordering.
