Abstract
My team's research has been practice changing in regard to the management and detection of prostate cancer. This includes research in the use of MRI to identify regions suspicious for clinically aggressive prostate cancer and the development from concept to commercialization and widespread adoption of a novel prostate biopsy device. Adoption by the medical community has been facilitated by highly cited and high impactful reports in leading journals. Novel approaches and systems were able to better characterize disease states using prostate MRI and targeted biopsies, compared to traditional methods. Better detection of aggressive tumors lowered cancer upgrading rates from 30.2% down to 6.7% for gleason grade group two or higher. These research efforts have helped initiate medicine's adoption towards more targeted diagnosis, personalized focal therapies, and evidence-based practice in the detection and management of prostate cancer. Most recently artificial intelligence software has been developed to better detect prostate cancer by prostate MRI.
