Abstract

This natural history protocol continues to enroll patients with challenging functional thyroid disorders. We continue to collect valuable clinical data pertinent to primary hypo- or hyperthyroidism, as well as rarer disorders such as thyroid hormone resistance, thyrotropin-secreting pituitary adenomas, among others. Given the long-standing duration of the protocol (close to 5 decades), we are planning on refurbishing the datapoints, and providing accurate diagnoses and hope to generate an updated and easy-to-access database. This protocol currently has a hDTA established with Nowak Designs, which has been provided with a spreadsheet of a de-identified list of thyroid function laboratory results from 30 patients, which will be used to develop a mathematical model to predict optimal levothyroxine dosing in hypothyroidism. There are also plans with establishing a hRCA with University of Cambridge to share research blood samples and data collected for research purposes, as well as an MTA (specific type yet to be decided) with Septerna therapeutics to share research blood samples. But these are just plans as of now, and the process has not yet been formally initiated with the NIDDK MTA office.
