Abstract
We are investigating the role of the mitochondria in adaptation to stresses such as exercise or increased afterload in skeletal or cardiac muscle, respectively. We have identified molecular mechanisms mediating skeletal muscle metabolic adaptation to exercise and cardiac muscle adaptation to isoproterenol stimulation. Insights into these mechanisms that involve inflammation or innate immune signaling via the mitochondria may be helpful for developing new strategies for disease treatment or health maintenance.
