Abstract

In FY 2025, we continued our efforts to study the molecular underpinnings of staphylococcal colonization on different sites of the human body, such as the skin, nose, and intestine. We are particularly interested in the effects of the human diet on S. aureus intestinal colonization, and as a consequence, S. aureus infection. We are also trying to set up genetic tools to manipulate other members of the human microbiome, such as Cutibacterium acnes, to study their interaction with staphylococci in the human microbiome. Our present focus in this project is to discover and characterize anti-staphylococcal bacteriocins of C. acnes.
