Abstract
The National Health and Nutrition Examination Survey (NHANES) is a nationally-representative cross-sectional survey of US children and adults, conducted by the CDC National Center for Health Statistics (NCHS). The survey includes questionnaire data, physical examinations, and biospecimen collection that is a critical source of child health data used for pediatric growth charts and providing evidence of the pediatric obesity epidemic. This agreement will expand the NHANES to collect data on child development, including developmental milestones of behavioral and social-emotional development from NHANES participants 0-5 years of age. Specifically, NCHS will direct the data collection contractor in establishing and revising protocols for the Child Development Study, integrating the behavioral screening into the current NHANES protocols, and in preparing the instrumentation and training and field manuals.
