Insight into mitochondrial oxidative respiration from analysis of live and frozen cells and tissue samples

Abstract

Here, we seek to establish techniques that directly measure critical aspects of mitochondrial function – specifically the activity of electron transport chain complexes and ATP synthase. Furthermore, we intend for these methods to be used for analyzing frozen tissues (specimens from patients or animal disease models), frozen cells (blood cells from patients or patient-derived fibroblasts), as well as live cells (cell models), which could transform our ability to investigate the contribution of mitochondrial abnormalities with aging and disease.
