Abstract

We will validate the expression of collagen in macrophages (Aim 1), we will test if reducing collagen expression in macrophages affects injury repair in young SKM (Aim 2), and we will examine whether increases in COL+ macrophages contributes to skeletal muscle fibrosis in pathological conditions, including a model of muscle dystrophy (Aim 3). We will explore these possibilities by conducting detailed studies in both acute and chronic injury models, in collaboration with Dr. Basisty (TGB), who has expertise in macrophage gene expression and fibrosis. We anticipate gaining important insights into the molecular mechanisms underlying injury repair in old SKM.
