Abstract

PROJECT SUMMARY The HEALthy Brain and Child Development (HBCD) Study is a nationwide, groundbreaking initiative intended to provide unprecedented insights into the development of children from prenatal life to 10 years of age among a sample of those who are raised in both challenging and supportive environments. As this study enters the third of four years of recruitment of 7,200 participant families, this is a critical period in terms of optimizing the potential of the Study to meet its original stated objectives. In this administrative supplement, we propose to optimize opportunities for HBCD sites to improve or accelerate recruitment and retention of study participants overall and within target demographics in the third of four years of recruitment by offering targeted supplemental funding to augment staff, increase or balance recruitment efforts, and evaluate and support recruitment and retention activities that are needed to achieve site-specific and overall Consortium targets. With this supplement, we also propose to consolidate and expand communications and centralized recruitment platforms under the HBCD Study Communications, Engagement, and Dissemination (CED) committee in support of recruitment, communications, and dissemination. These activities include overseeing the development of communication materials, development of social media communications, central management of a clinical study recruitment platform, and evaluation of recruitment activities across the Consortium.
