Abstract

PROJECT SUMMARY ADMINISTRATIVE CORE PROJECT SUMMARY/ABSTRACT The Administrative Core provides scientific leadership, operational support, and financial management for the Arkansas INBRE and its components. Drs. Lawrence Cornett and Jerry Ware will oversee the activities of the Administrative Core and the 3 governing bodies: Executive, Steering, and External Advisory Committees. The Administrative Core will lead a Student Research Program that will increase the number of Arkansas undergraduate students who pursue careers in biomedical research. Opportunities for undergraduate students to participate in biomedical research will be provided through a summer research program and research projects led by primarily undergraduate institution faculty funded through the Developmental Research Project Program. Workshops will be offered that are designed to inform undergraduate students about career opportunities within the translational spectrum of research that impacts human health. Funds allocated to network institutions will strengthen research infrastructure and support career development of primarily undergraduate faculty. To foster collaborations between the Arkansas INBRE and other IDeA programs, the Administrative Core will organize the annual Arkansas INBRE Fall Research Conference, publish a weekly newsletter, and use social media to disseminate information about funding opportunities and accomplishments of network faculty and students. The Administrative Core will continue to foster partnerships to expand participation in biomedical research and increase the nation’s research workforce. The Administrative Core will maintain a robust and effect evaluation program that will guide leadership in expanding the impact of the Arkansas INBRE and its programs on the development of biomedical research infrastructure in Arkansas.
