Abstract
Project Summary â Administrative Core In SC INBRE V, the state-wide network will grow to include three Comprehensive Research Universities and thirteen Primarily Undergraduate Institutions (PUI). An efficient and effective Administrative Core will be fundamental to successfully implementing SC INBRE V with the goal of enhancing biomedical research capacity and infrastructure in South Carolina. The Administrative Core will be responsible for integrating the activities of the multiple program components, working with stakeholders at various institutions across the network, and assessing the impact SC INBRE V has on the biomedical research culture at network institutions. The Administrative Core will work with the Steering Committee (SC), Executive Committee (EC), External Advisory Committee (EAC), and Program Evaluator to guide and monitor the progress of the SC INBRE program. The structure of the Administrative Core will maintain its current composition of the Program Director/Principal Investigator, Program Coordinator, Program Manager, and Communication Manager, while growing to include the Director of the Student Research Program (SRP), the Program Evaluator, and Director of the Developmental Research Projects Program (DRPP). The Administrative Core will oversee all aspects of SC INBRE V including organization and logistical support for the SRP and DRPP programs, the Career Development Workshop, the annual network-wide Science Symposium, the Data Science Core, and the Alteration and Renovation projects. The Administrative Core will be responsible for the fiscal management of the network and ensuring all aspects of the program are compliant with all applicable state and federal regulations. Fiscal oversight of SC INRBE V will be accomplished using a plan developed in collaboration with the sponsored programs, grants management, and accounting offices at the lead institution to ensure timely distribution and expenditure of funds. The Administrative Core will work with the EC to monitor and evaluate the progress of each SC INBRE funded faculty member, and work with the EC and SRP Director to monitor and evaluate the mentoring and progress of students being trained in the SRP at each network PUI. The Administrative Core, utilizing program assessment tools developed by the Program Evaluator, will ensure SC INBREâs programs are meeting their goals and recommend improvements in the program when necessary. A well-functioning Administrative Core will be critical to successfully achieving SC INBRE Vâs goals of continuing to build biomedical research capacity in our state while providing impactful research experiences for undergraduate students who will be the future biomedical researchers in South Carolina.
