Abstract

OVERALL PROJECT SUMMARY Indiana Department of Health (IDOH) Laboratory will assist the FDA with a prevention-based approach to monitoring the safety of the food supply through increasing food product analysis. IDOH Laboratories is a multidisciplinary team specializing in environmental and clinical testing for biological and chemical adulterants. Tracks in the Microbiology Discipline are being completed by the IDOH Food Microbiology Lab, IDOH Enterics Lab, and IDOH Biological Threat (BT) Lab. Tracks in the Chemistry and Radiochemistry Disciplines are being completed by the IDOH Food Chemistry Lab, and IDOH Radiochemistry Lab, with assist from the Organics, Chemical Threat and Metals Lab. Each department has the training and experience to complete routine testing in their respective lab areas as required in this cooperative agreement. For method validation and capacity development projects, these departments plan to work together using their respective expertise to tackle unfamiliar matrices, methods, and/or analytes to complete the projects.
