Abstract

OTHER PROJECT INFORMATION – Revised Project Summary/Abstract Core A – Administrative and Research Support Core The NBER programs in aging and health care have as their building blocks the independent research projects of a very large group of investigators in economics and related disciplines. The administrative core enriches this sizable body of scientific research by providing a structured, forward-thinking, developmental focus, and a programmatic umbrella to what would otherwise be more isolated and independently conducted work. The importance of the administrative core is in transforming these rich building blocks into a programmatic whole that is far more than the sum of its parts. The administrative core provides intellectual leadership that focuses the Center’s research development on cutting edge issues as they emerge; manages a multi-tiered mentoring and training operation that assures an ever refreshing pipeline of investigators and leaders in aging and health research; provides for the programmatic coordination and integration of a large volume of research on aging and health; arranges meetings and conferences that bring people together to share, plan and collaborate; manages, enhances, and facilitates access to a library of health-related databases for researcher use; and provides administrative support that assures efficiency and productivity for this umbrella of research activity.
