Abstract

This is an administrative supplement request to our funded R01 entitled Brain Health across the Metabolic Continuum in Youth at Risk for T2D (DK126826; 9/11/21 – 6/30/26). The goal of this R01 is to determine how metabolic factors during neurodevelopment set the stage for the potentially profound, long-term impact of T2D on the brain and its functions. Given that the disease occurs at a time when brains are undergoing dramatic developmental processes, the aggressive nature of youth-onset T2D progression and complications in other organ systems, these results may provide guidance and justification for longer follow-up, interventional and/or mechanistic studies, and have important clinical implications. Due to inflation of study-related costs, we are requesting an administrative supplement to allow us to complete this grant without affecting the rigor and power of the approved study design, ultimately advancing scientific knowledge about brain health in youth at risk for T2D.
