Abstract
Core B. Program Development (Pilot) Core PROJECT SUMMARY/ABSTRACT The Program Development Core (B) supports innovative research in developing areas of aging research through six key mechanisms: (1) a peer reviewed pilot grant program for both emerging and established scholars that allows faculty to pursue new and innovative topics; (2) a mentorship program for emerging scholar pilot recipients to assist them in developing successful applications for extramural funding; (3) a weekly seminar series in which faculty from other institutions present their recent, innovative research; (4) a monthly student/postdoc/junior faculty seminarâthe Demography of Health and Aging (DOHA) seminarâin which graduate students and postdoctoral scholars, as well as junior faculty receiving pilot funding, present their current research at various stages of completion and receive feedback from other students, postdocs, and faculty; (5) regular statistical programming and methods workshops to bring associates up to speed on methodological developments and approaches in the field; and (6) ongoing efforts to recruit new associates interested in engaging in important aging research from across the university into CPHA, coupled with efforts to recruit new faculty engaged in innovative aging research from outside Duke wherever and however possible.
