Abstract
REVISED ABSTRACT Administrative and Research Support Core (Core A) The Carolina Center for Population Aging and Health (CCPAH) brings together faculty from disciplines in the health and social sciences to advance research on aging in different contexts and on the links between health and productivity and to develop and apply new approaches to measurement. The Administrative and Research Support Core of CCPAH supports this community of scholars and recruits new scientists to join it from UNC and from other universities in the region. To stimulate innovation and critical thinking around state-of-the-art research in aging the Core organizes seminars and workshops related to the Centerâs themes. The Core also provides grants administration services related to proposal preparation, submission, and project set up, so that faculty focus on producing the highest quality science. With respect to research support the Core provides access to computing software and hardware and IT expertise. Over the next five years the Core will provide technical support to faculty wishing to incorporate AI into their research, develop a chatbot to support exploration of CCPAH-produced survey datasets, and facilitate access to UNCâs Federal Statistics Research Data Center. Lastly, the Core will plan and execute Center activities in conjunction with the Internal and External Advisory Committees, NIA program officials, and the D&E Coordinating Center. The success of this Core, in combination with the success of the Center overall, will result in several outcomes. Research and data collection projects undertaken by CCPAH faculty will continue to reflect the state of the art with respect to aging-related design; this in turn will enhance the value of data placed into the public domain and increase scientistsâ ability to undertake comparative research across diverse settings. This Core will continue procedures developed over CCPAHâs first five years, including leveraging existing structures at the Carolina Population Center, CCPAHâs administrative home. The combination of the CCPAH PI, Core Leaders, project manager, and experienced professional staff on which CCPAH will draw, all of whom are deeply committed to the goals we have developed, will provide strong leadership for CCPAH.
