Abstract
ADMINISTRATIVE AND RESEARCH SUPPORT CORE: REVISED PROJECT SUMMARY/ ABSTRACT The Administrative and Research Support Core of the Center on Aging and Population Sciences (CAPS) provides the infrastructure that supports the activities of the other Center cores and facilitates the Centerâs research mission. Experienced Administrative Core staff provide state-of-the-art administrative support and specialized expertise to enable cutting-edge, population-based aging research conducted by CAPS faculty and CAPS pilot awardees. The Administrative Core supports the activities of the highly successful Program Development and Pilot Core and will play a critical role in developing and managing activities of the proposed Communication and Dissemination Core and the External Network Core focused on aging in sexual minority populations. The activities of the Administrative Core are organized around three aims. Aim 1 is to foster a vibrant, interdisciplinary community of scientists to advance population science focused on aging through activities including conferences, panels, and workshops. Aim 2 is to coordinate operations, activities, and programs across the Centerâs infrastructure cores to provide seamless and efficient services to advance the scientific mission of CAPS, with no duplication of effort across cores. Aim 3 is to offer exceptional pre- and post-award services to reduce the administrative burden on faculty and facilitate scientific advances across CAPSâs research themes. The Administrative Core was central to CAPS's tremendous growth and success during its first years and will ensure CAPSâs continued success in advancing innovative population-based research on aging and advancement of NIA's scientific priorities.
