Abstract
Revised Abstract: The Communication and Dissemination Core (Communication core) of the San Antonio Center for AD/ADRD Population Aging and Social Studies (CAPAS) will support Center goals by sharing knowledge of Hispanic/Latino AD/ADRD data and research using population and social science perspectives across a wide range of communities, including investigators across several key disciplines, Hispanic populations, advocates, decision makers, and other members of the public. We will deploy this core with a program that recognizes the heterogeneity of needs and interests represented in these audiences. We will capitalize on and enhance existing investigatorsâ expertise and amplify outreach resources at our institutions to make a meaningful positive impact on Hispanic AD/ADRD awareness and actionable knowledge. Our Specific Aims are: 1) To advance the ability of the research community to perform research on Hispanic AD/ADRD using population studies of Hispanics both in the U.S and internationally, by disseminating CAPAS activities and accomplishments and highlighting research findings internally and externally. 2) To enhance the capacity of investigators conducting population-based research on Hispanic ADRD, by facilitating access to and use of key Hispanic ADRD longitudinal cohorts. 3) To expand understanding of population and social science on Hispanic AD/ADRD among the public, advocates, and decision-makers, through online and social media communication platforms. Core Co-Leaders and staff are highly experienced in leading successful communication and dissemination programs, with complementary expertise in communication platforms, outreach, messaging, and scientific content. They also have active research projects fielding various longitudinal ADRD/aging cohorts, experience in bilingual data-sharing, and a successful history of running aging research centers. This core will also be critical to maintaining tight communication across all of CAPAS, fostering a sense of belonging in and ownership of our new center. Increased familiarity with data will foster collaboration and more integrated research. Our innovative program of community outreach with bilingual communications will further contribute to building knowledge and trust among the public, advocates, and decision makers. Ultimately, this core aims to raise the visibility of Hispanic ADRD research and increase representation of all groups in AD/ADRD research, helping to reduce health disparities.
