Abstract

Revised Abstract: The Administrative and Research Support Core (Administrative core) of the San Antonio Center for AD/ADRD Population Aging and Social Studies (CAPAS) will guide the execution of the strategic vision of the Center while also being the backbone of all CAPAS administrative support activities, allowing all other cores to focus on scientific goals. We will function as a steward of resources, a facilitator of regulatory compliance, a coordinator of communications, and a tracker of productivity. All these functions will enhance research quality, improve scientific productivity, identify opportunities for growth and collaboration within our Center, among our local, national and international collaborators, as well as across institutions, particularly with other AD/ADRD Demography and Economics of Aging (D&E) centers, D&E Centers, and the D&E Coordinating Center. We will provide coordination within and across cores to produce all center’s activities with efficiency, and minimize administrative burden on all cores while complying with regulatory requirements. The Administrative core will also aim at communicating with NIA and coordinating our activities with those of other NIA-funded Centers, particularly D&E centers. The Specific Aims of this core are: 1) To provide scientific direction and leadership to achieve the strategic goals of the Center. 2) To monitor and coordinate the program of activities for all CAPAS’ cores, fostering integration and optimal use of resources, evaluating milestones and progress, and managing the program in compliance with applicable regulations. 3) To increase CAPAS’ impact by disseminating our activities and accomplishments with the scientific and local/regional and Hispanic/Latino communities, seeking opportunities for strategic collaborations with various centers and programs. We will use a shared leadership model that aims to optimize efficiency, productivity, multidisciplinary, and coherence with the overarching theme. The leaders of the Administrative core are the MPIs of the CAPAS, Drs. Wong and Riosmena, who have worked together for almost two decades. Both leaders bring previous experience administering and/or contributing to other P30’s funded by NIA, and are well positioned to lead this new and distinct initiative to further promote the integration of population and social science with insights from neuropsychology and biology, at our institutions and beyond.
