Abstract
2. ABSTRACT - Coordination Section The BCM Center for Precision Medicine Models (CPMM) supports local, national, and international programs and individual researchers in the development of precision animal models that (1) end the diagnostic odyssey of patients with undiagnosed, rare, and Mendelian diseases and (2) serve as resources for pre-clinical studies investigating personalized medicine approaches to their care. The Coordination Section will provide multidisciplinary scientific leadership for the CPMM. This Section will leverage the multi-PI (Heaney, Burrage, Yamamoto, and Milosavljevic) and Program Manager (Lanza) groupâs established experience leading large research programs, such as CPMM, and expertise in clinical and molecular genetics (Burrage), model organism production and phenotyping (Heaney, Yamamoto), and human and model organism bioinformatics (Milosavljevic) to coordinate all administrative and scientific activities of the Center. The Coordination Center employs a steering committee and organizational structure to supervise the workflow among the Center Sections and Units and oversee day-to-day operations of the various components of the Center. The Coordination Section will continue to be responsible for maintaining internal and external Center communications by scheduling meetings of section/unit working groups, all center staff, and the Center Steering Committee. These meetings will be used to review section/unit operations, track project and milestone progress, and select submitted variants for modeling. To ensure efficient Center operations, project progression, and data reporting, the Section will also maintain, review, and update all established Center policies and standard operating procedures. In collaboration with the other Sections, the Coordination Section will continue to implement strategies for outreach and recruitment of local, regional, and national community-based submissions for variant modeling. The Coordination Section will also establish an External Advisory Board (EAB), schedule EAB meetings, and implement corrective measures identified by the EAB after each annual meeting. Finally, the Coordination section will monitor Center performance and impact on biomedical research.
