Abstract
We request partial support for the 25 Anniversary American Society for Matrix Biology (ASMB) Biennial conference entitled âMatrix Marvels: 25 Years of Pioneering Progress, Infinite Potential Aheadâ. This in- person meeting will take place November 15-19, 2025 in Baltimore, MD. This multidisciplinary and collaborative meeting hosts the premier investigators in extracellular matrix biology (ECM) and was developed with collaboration from Guest Societies and Patient Advocacy groups like the Histochemical Society, the Society for Biomaterials, the Marfan Syndrome Foundation, the Choroideremia Research Foundation, the Foundation Fighting Blindness and several key stakeholders in industry. It will feature cutting edge basic and translational research with strong interaction between academic and industry research groups related to a variety of topics that reflect normal biology of cells/tissues, and the molecular and cellular alterations that drive disease processes with a new emphasis in the 2025 meeting on pharmacological development for patient benefit. This meeting will have a Leader of the ECM field as the keynote speaker and 6 Plenary Sessions of interest for all members of the society. Importantly, the meeting focuses on promoting the field of matrix biology in order to disseminate knowledge about the ECM and to translate this knowledge to improve human health and aging and to better treat human disease. The Aims of this R13 application are (Aim 1) to disseminate and integrate new knowledge about ECM and its receptors in health, disease, aging, and regeneration, (Aim 2) to contribute to training the next generation of scientists and to foster the careers of junior investigators in the area of ECM, and (Aim 3) to enhance leadership opportunities for trainees and junior investigators as future leaders in matrix biology. Overall, this conference will be, as it has always been, the seminal conference in the field of ECM research in the U.S.*
