Abstract
PROJECT SUMMARY (CORE I - ADMINISTRATIVE) The goal of Administrative Core is to maximize efficiency and impact of the PKD-InVent Center by setting the overall direction, ensuring optimal resource use, and working with the Central Coordinating Site (CCS) to promote collaboration within and across the PKD RRC. Major advances in PKD will require coordinated and cooperative activities between many individual groups. Integrating activities between different investigators and institutions remains a challenge in the decentralized model of academic free inquiry and intellectual pursuit. This is critically important when considering large datasets such as those emerging from the profiling technologies that are the focus of our PKD-InVent Center. It is critical that these can be rapidly and efficiently shared in a way that fulfills the vision of the PKD RRC to best serve community end-users. Modern-day administrative strategies can be employed to address these challenges as a model for how team science can rapidly advance a field. The Admin Core will play a key role in our project, to coordinate activities between our groups and establish a conduit for conversations with the CCS and feedback from end users. We will bring to bear modern tools including online communication platforms to establish an administrative workflow that works optimally with today's decentralized pace of work and busy schedules. Production of the PKD Multidimensional Databank online will be in careful coordination with the CCS, with a clear organizational structure, to ensure that the complex datasets are presented rapidly in an easy-to-use user interface, and protecting patient identities. A summer program focusing on the modern techniques relevant to PKD will be established to train the next generation of scientists. The Admin Core will (1) maximize community impact of PKD research by promoting collaborative efforts internally and within the consortium, (2) institute workflows for budget management and program oversight to ensure sustainability, inclusivity, and research progress, (3) invigorate the next generation of PKD in vitro researchers through participation-forward boot camps and organoid activities. These strategies will ensure the Admin Core to serve as the primary managerial component for all activities of our PKD-InVent Center, promote collaborations of members inside and outside the center, and attract early-stage investigators and people new to PKD research.
