Abstract
ADMINISTRATIVE CORE: PROJECT SUMMARY The goals of the Administrative Core are to provide overall organizational oversight of the Mayo Clinic Polycystic Kidney Disease Research Core Center (MPRC) and coordinate communications within the Center. In addition, the Administrative Core will coordinate communications with the PKD Research Resource Consortium (PKD-RRC) and the PKD community and organize education and training sessions within the MPRC. To achieve these goals, the Administrative Core leadership will be provided by Dr. Peter C. Harris, Director, and Associate Directors, Drs. Xiaogang Li and Neera Dahl, each of whom has extensive PKD research and administrative experience. Overall oversight of the MPRC will be administered through the Executive Committee, consisting of the MPRC leadership and Director of the Biomedical Research Core (BRC) and Research Development Core (RDC), plus administrative support. This committee will meet monthly to provide overall operational leadership to the MPRC, including interactions with the PKD-RRC. The Steering Committee will include members of the Executive Committee, co-Investigators associated with the BRC, other Mayo investigators studying PKD, and two patient representatives, and meet every 3 months. This committee will provide broader input into how to improve operations of the MPRC, promote cooperation between the BRC and the RDC, and the PKD-RRC, and provide patient input. The BRC and the RDC will have an Operational Committee consisting of the Core leadership and staff and meet weekly to ensure smooth operation of the Core. The leadership of the BRC and the RDC will provide an update on operations at the monthly Executive Committee meeting. The Administrative Core will also oversee the finances of the MPRC to ensure smooth running of the Cores and organize charge-back mechanisms for users of the Center. Other oversight functions will include, managing access to the BRC and track Core activities, facilitate sharing of reagents via MTAs, determining pricing and contracts to efficiently deliver data, conduct surveys and determine the level of interest in MPRC resources, oversee the finances of the BRC and the Center, allocate supplemental Mayo funds to support development of services, and generate progress reports for the PKD-RRC Steering Committee and External Expert Panel. The educational offerings of the MPRC will be organized by the Administrative Core and consist of weekly educational meetings, including a seminar series and 6 Visiting Professor visits from other institutions per year, contributing to PKD-RRC seminars and the Annual PKD-RRC Scientific Meeting, organizing virtual and in person training sessions, and administering the Summer Student Enrichment Program (SSEP). New investigators will be attached to the PKD field through collaborative opportunities, involvement in the MPRC seminar series, encouragement to apply to the PKD-RRC Pilot and Feasibility program, and by exploring opportunities for MPI grants. Overall, the Administrative Core will ensure smooth running of the MPRC and communications with the PKD-RRC.
