Abstract

BIOSTATISTICS SHARED RESOURCE: ABSTRACT Rigorous study design, appropriate analyses, and reproducible results are essential to advancing cancer research, and the Biostatistics Shared Resource (BSR) plays a key role in this effort through collaborations with Mayo Clinic Comprehensive Cancer Center (MCCCC) investigators. The BSR team consists of experts in methodology covering cancer clinical trials, pragmatic trials, cohort studies, cancer detection and interception studies, high-dimensional data analysis, quality-of-life and patient-reported outcomes, pooled analyses, and surrogate endpoints. BSR members implement (or create) advanced statistical techniques for MCCCC projects. Since the last grant renewal, Karla Ballman (ACTS, MCR) has become BSR Director, with Jennifer Le- Rademacher (CPCS, MCR) as Co-director. Ballman also directs the Bioinformatics Shared Resource (BISR), fostering integration between the BSR and BISR teams for more efficient and effective collaborations with MCCCC members. BSR experts support MCCCC investigators through three Specific Aims: Aim 1: Collaborate with MCCCC investigators, contributing expertise in study design, analysis, interpretation of results, and dissemination of findings. Aim 2: Actively participate in MCCCC Programs and fulfill institutional and administrative responsibilities, including contributing to educational activities. Aim 3: Identify or develop appropriate statistical methods. Collaborations with BSR offer MCCCC investigators a comprehensive suite of statistical support, including expert considerations in study design, data collection and quality control, and statistical methodologies. BSR provides insightful data analysis and interpretation and develops advanced statistical methods, as needed. In addition, BSR engages in educational initiatives, imparting statistical principles and insights to empower researchers. Collaboration extends to co-authoring abstracts, posters, presentations, and manuscripts. BSR has contributed to 915 publications (including 252 in journals with an impact factor >10) authored by MCCCC members who account for 46% of BSR revenue. A key strength is our ability to reproduce analytical results, ensuring the reliability and transparency of research outcomes. Furthermore, the BSR team engages initiatives to streamline research processes and enhance institutional efficiency. Member Utilization 2019-2023: 316 Total (52 CPCS, 34 REDI, 26 CGSM, 38 CII, 49 NTTM, 117 ACTS) Publication by Members: 915 total, 252 with Impact Factor >10
