Abstract

DMAIC Project Summary/Abstract: The overarching goal of the Data Management, Analysis and Informatics Core (DMAIC) is to ensure data and analytic integrity, transparency and reproducibility by continuing to serve as a central source of methodological expertise to the researchers of the Pitt OAIC. Methodological expertise is most beneficial when provided by a team such as the DMAIC familiar with the balance and mobility-in-aging themes of the OAIC. Our specific aims are to: 1. Promote study integrity, internal validity and optimized use of common data elements via best practices for data management for Pitt OAIC Projects (PESC, REC, developmental and external projects). 2. Provide research design, analysis, clinical informatics and bioinformatics expertise for preparing proposals for and conducting Pitt OAIC and external projects. 3. Support the training mission of the Pitt OAIC with Pepper Scholars and other trainees. 4. Apply and expand novel methods to address OAIC-related methodological challenges. 5. Collaborate with other cores and units within and outside the institution on OAIC-related activities. 6. Monitor and manage core resources and usage. For OAIC pilot and developmental projects, we will support the data management and analysis needs in addition to facilitating access to qualitative and other specialized analytic resources. We provide methodological support to dissemination and implementation endeavors. We will provide workshops and training for OAIC trainees as well as involving graduate student researchers in core activities. We innovate by developing new techniques and applications of existing methods to address OAIC theme-related methodological challenges. Our proposed Developmental Project on per protocol analyses explores newer statistical methods tapping into treatment effects of interventions rather than the effect of random assignment and will generate resources for use by OAIC and beyond. We will collaborate with others within and outside the institution on OAIC theme-related activities to share and learn from a broader community of colleagues. So far during the current cycle (2021-2025), the DMAIC provided data management/statistical support to 45 Pitt OAIC projects. This extensive support generated findings which were disseminated in over 100 peer reviewed publications and contributed to obtaining over $65 million of research funding focused on mobility. We build on a strong track record of highly productive 20 years with stable leadership providing data management and analytical infrastructure, methodological innovation, and research methods training. We will continue to provide these services in addition to meeting newer demands for machine learning, computational biology, informatics and big data, as well as the OAIC’s growing focus on implementation science.
